Homeschooling
Online Super Tutors can help
Our home-schooling programme covers the National Curriculum for England for KS3, KS4, GCSE and A Levels. Our online school combines the benefits of home schooling with the extracurricular activities of the traditional school to deliver effective and enriching learning experiences.
Home-schooling on the rise
The number of home-schooled children in England rose by 38% in 2020 (Association of Directors of Children’s Services)
Home-schooling is an educational choice that parents in the U.K. are proactively making to give their children the benefits they might not receive in the traditional classroom. While the U.K. holds a top spot in the list of best countries for education, it suffers from systemic issues that affect educational quality and experience. To cite an example, state schools have one teacher for a class of 30 pupils, making it challenging to give attention to individual students in the classroom.
For some, basing their children’s education at home revolves around their health concerns or histories. The unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, which has normalized hybrid work, has also intensified
parents’ desire to educate their children in a secure home environment. The concerns are greater among parents whose children are living with medical conditions or whose health history make them more vulnerable to severe illness during a public health crisis.
Advantages of online home-schooling
Parents’ consider educating their children at home based the advantages it brings and the potential trade-offs that come with a lack of peer interaction. If you haven’t reached a decision on whether or not to home-school your child, consider these points:
Your child learns at a pace they find comfortable
At schools, children are expected to study at a certain rate. However, not everyone is able to, resulting in some falling behind their classmates, and some learning quicker than peers and getting bored when they run of new things to learn. Home-schooling gives your child the opportunity to determine their progression. They can, along with their Online Super Tutor, learn at a pace that suits their ability and preference.
Your child has more choice over how they plan their day
School and daily routine go hand in hand. As your child attains maturity, they may yearn to have more control how they go about their day. Online home-schooling allows them some flexibility to choose learning hours and set their daily schedule. This means not missing out on the activities they want to experience while also devoting the necessary time towards gaining quality education.
How many hours of learning per day should home-schooled
students get?
Following the guidance of the Department for Education, schools must provide between three and five hours of learning per day, depending on the child’s age. Education is considered full-time when it is provided for over 12 hours a week. The average school day is usually 9am to 3pm, with a 1-hour lunch break.
Ensure that hours of learning at home meet the government’s mandate. Your child already has the advantage of planning
their learning and extracurricular activities quite flexibly. A healthy balance between online learning and outdoor activities is what parents generally aim for.
How do you go about home-schooling your child?
It is legal to home-school your child. The law in the United Kingdom states that children of compulsory school age (5-16 years old) must receive full-time education suitable to their age, aptitude, ability and any special educational needs that they have. Children can receive education by attending a school or at home.
Here’s a quick overview of how to begin home-schooling your child in the UK:
If your child is studying in England, Wales or Northern Ireland, send the headteacher a deregistration letter informing the school to remove your child’s name from the register. The deregistration letter can be handwritten, typed or emailed. Upon receiving it, the headteacher is required to immediately inform the Local Authority.
You don’t require the headmaster’s permission to deregister and home-school your child. Make sure you get a receipt that serves as proof of deregistration.
In Scotland, you’re required to seek consent from your local authority before deregistering your child. Here again, you can convey your intent by letter. The local authority is expected to respond within six weeks. Consent is likely to be granted. An exception is when your child is on the Child Protection Register.
A deregistration letter or permission is not required if your child:
- Has never attended school, such as when they have not reached compulsory age school
- Attends an independent school
- Has never attended school in the area of your current residence
- Has completed primary education and is yet to start secondary education
- Has been going to a school that has not permanently closed.

Group Courses
Online Super Tutors offers opportunities for peer-assisted learning and supplemental learning through an intensive, rapid course of study.
Why Choose a Group Course?
Group courses enable collaborative learning, which is associated with numerous benefits. Learning with peers enhances critical thinking, problem solving, cultural awareness and communication skills. It has also been shown to increase intrinsic motivation and lessen anxiety.
A mix of 1-to-1 and group courses does its bit to recreate a classroom environment and all the advantages that go with it. To cite an example, your child may feel more confident to tackle a complex problem in a group setting than they might on their own. The experience of learning in a group can also help mature learners understand how others view them and how they view themselves. This self-awareness proves beneficial in the real world when they will be working and collaborating with peers at their place of work or in their community.

Crash Courses
Crash Courses Explained
Crash courses tend to have a bad reputation as a tool for cramming study material just before an examination. But they’re surprisingly useful in other ways. A crash course is a great supplement to in-depth studies, a tool to revise concepts and topics before an exam or as a refresher to help your child really get the important stuff into their bones!
Our crash courses run throughout the term and during holidays when your child may be keen on getting ahead of peers or simply needs a boost of motivation for the term ahead. No matter what their intention, you can enjoy peace of mind knowing that we will address your child’s learning needs and help them organize their studies on their own terms. Your child can determine what they need to catch up on or refresh based on their current position and where they wish to be.
